Greece (Ελλάδα) - spa resorts & hotels

The curative springs of Greece have been written about by historians and ancient physicians.
Herodotos first observed curative waters and suggested curative baths, while Hippocrates studied the effects of warm and cold baths on the human organism and described the diseases for which they are beneficial. During this period for the first time thermo-metallic waters were organized and classified according to their color, taste and odor. Greek physicians after Hippocrates continued to apply hydrotherapy for treating various problems. The main representatives were Arofilos, Eratistratos, Mousas during the Roman period and Pavlos Aeginitis during the Byzantine period. During the Middle Ages, when the human spirit was guided by superstitions, hydrotherapy was seriously influenced. It regained popularity at the beginning of the 16th century when it was approached with scientific methodology. At the beginning of the century our country’s curative springs were organized.
Today, when alternative and preventative medicine involves areas of research and the use of curative waters against various diseases, spas can offer an important aid for human health.
